The numbers sound like more than marketing hyperbole. They exemplify a basic philosophy that is based on the concept of total performance instead of discrete numbers.
Mercedes-AMG has provided the electric challenger with an advanced quad-motor system. With each wheel getting its electric motor, the E-Tron S has unprecedented levels of torque vectoring.
This setup is capable of extremely accurate handling that was never possible with mechanical diffs. The system can provide positive torque to the outside wheels and negative torque to the inside wheels in turns, all measured and adjusted hundreds of times a second.

The OG AMG Panamericana grille hasn’t been forgotten either, but re-imagined. Some of the air flaps are no longer required for engine cooling, but house sensors and ensure the face of the car remains familiar – having retained the brand recognition they serve aerodynamic functions.

Performance Tradition meets Sustainable Future
The new AMG electric car is more than just a simple product, it is a testament to how the brand sees itself as part of the new automobile time line. The transition to electrification poses existential challenges for traditional performance brands.
The approach taken by Mercedes-AMG acknowledges this yet does not compromise their performance lineage. They’ve moved quickly but have not attempted to make an electric vehicle that tries to replicate the character of a combustion engine, instead they’ve worked to embrace the strengths of electric propulsion and the result is something that salutes what they’ve been, while presenting the future.
Production is set to commence next year at Mercedes’ carbon-neutral Factory 56 in Sindelfingen, Germany. Products are expected to be delivered to customers in first half of 2020, with arrival in North America to follow.
